The Pine Mountain Fire Department is an all-volunteer agency with a
long history of service to the town and the community.
The department has people who volunteer as firefighters, people who
volunteer as First Responders (including two Paramedics), and some
who volunteer as part of the service company. We are also involved
with an Explorer Post program, conducted as part of the Boy Scouts,
and open to boy and girls at Harris County High School.
To volunteer with us, you must be of good moral character and
willing to give of yourself to help others. You must have a valid
driver’s license (except those in the Explorer program). You are
subject to a background check and drug screen. You cannot have been
convicted of a felony offense in the last five years.
Many of our firefighters have also been trained as First Responders
and all of our members should be able to function in the service
company role as needed.
Firefighter – Because this does involve actual firefighting
and strenuous activity, to be a firefighter you must be in good
physical condition. You must be at least 18 years old. You will be
expected to attend the training sessions, which are held at 8:00
a.m. the second Saturday of each month and at 7:00 p.m. the fourth
Thursday of each month. Plus, you will be expected to attend other
departmental activities as often as you can. You must successfully
complete the Module One Basic Firefighter class. This class is
regularly taught at the Georgia Fire Academy. Local classes are also
taught on a periodic basis. We encourage you to take other classes
offered at the Georgia Fire Academy. You will also be expected to
successfully complete a CPR/AED/First Aid class. At minimum, a valid
Georgia Class C driver’s license is required to operate Squad 12. At
minimum, a Georgia Class B non-commercial driver’s license is
required to operate Quint 1201 or Engine 1202. Once you qualify, you
will be offered a chance to enroll in the Georgia Firefighters
Pension Plan.
First Responder – To be a First Responder you must be in good
physical condition. You must be at least 18 years old. You will be
expected to attend the same training sessions as the firefighters
and other departmental activities as often as you can. At a minimum,
you must complete the First Responder program as taught by the
Harris County EMS. National certification is not required. At
minimum, a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license is required to
operate Squad 12. At minimum, a Georgia Class B non-commercial
driver’s license is required to operate Quint 1201 or Engine 1202.
Service Company – Our service company volunteers, many of
whom are also First Responders, provide rehab services for our
firefighters at fire scenes, they provide traffic and crowd control.
They coordinate with the American Red Cross and other service
agencies as needed. Our service company volunteers are an integral
part of our department. To be a part of the Service Company, you
must at least 18 years old and in good physical condition. You will
be expected to attend the same training sessions as the firefighters
and other departmental activities as often as you can. You will be
expected to successfully complete a CPR/AED/First Aid Class. At
minimum, a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license is required to
operate Squad 12. At minimum, a Georgia Class B non-commercial
