In an unusual situation, Pine Mountain firefighters used a garden
hose and small fire extinguisher to extinguish a vehicle fire
located at the fire station.
On Saturday, May 8, a special event was being conducted in Pine
Mountain’s downtown area. Some people were grilling hamburgers, hot
dogs and other food items at the event. One person put his grill in
the back of his pickup truck before making sure all the coals were
cold.
As he left the event, hot coals began falling into the bed of the
truck, igniting a spare tire and other items.
Seeing the fire developing, the person first pulled into the Post
Office parking lot but was redirected to the Pine Mountain fire
station, less than a block away. He pulled into the station, in
front of a fire truck, where one firefighter discharged a small fire
extinguisher into the back of the pickup and other firefighters used
a garden hose to finish the job.
Typically, two gardens hoses are rolled and stored in opposite ends
of the apparatus bay for washing fire trucks.
Damage to the pickup truck was minimal. |
