Apparatus/Equipment
Air Trailer
With a
cascade SCBA refilling system mounted in a cargo trailer and
compressor mounted in the station, the Pine Mountain Fire Department
can refill Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus at the scene of an
incident or at the station.
The
mobile cascade system features a Mako SCFS2-4HP1V fill station and
four 6,000 lb storage banks mounted inside a cargo trailer. Having
the fill station and storage banks mounted inside a cargo trailer
keeps the operator and SCBA cylinders out of the weather while the
cylinders are being refilled.
The
trailer has DC powered lights inside and outside. It also has AC
powered fluorescent lights on the inside and AC receptacles on all
four corners for powering exterior lights or electrical equipment.
An air conditioning unit is mounted in the ceiling, allowing the air
trailer to be used for rehab, or for other purposes.
A
generator mounted on the extended tongue provides the AC electrical
power.
The
compressor that recharges the storage banks is a Mako AC 105. The
compressor supplies Grade “E” air, which can also be used in SCUBA
tanks. The compressor is located inside the fire station equipment
room, isolated from vehicle exhaust.
Department members will soon begin constructing SCBA cylinder racks
that will be positioned in the rear of the air trailer and extra
SCBA cylinders will be kept in the storage racks.
Department members are also planning to construct bench seating
along the front and left side of the trailer for seating during
rehab and for secured storage space.
The
mobile SCBA refilling system is available to other agencies as
needed and as available during emergency or training situations.
The
SCBA refilling system was purchased from Tim Peace of B & T
Enterprises in Sharpsburg, Georgia. For other Georgia fire
departments considering the purchase of an SCBA refilling system,
the Pine Mountain Fire Department can heartily recommend Mr. Peace
and the Mako unit without any reservation.
The
SCBA refilling system is owned by the Town of Pine Mountain, and was
funded by a $40,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
